HOW WE BEGAN

The seeds of The Children’s Community (TCC) began in 2015 when co-founders Emily and Sarah connected at a local library meet-up for parents eager to create an alternative to school. They began dreaming of a warm and affirming environment—rooted in connection, collaboration, and play. Over time, their vision evolved from a "better version of school" to a transformative practice of decolonized unschooling and land-based reconnection.

In September 2019, TCC opened its doors on a beautiful campus surrounded by forest. The COVID-19 pandemic challenged the community to pivot, embrace agility, and deepen its values of care and connection. They also began using agile tools and practices to shape their ways of being together. Zoey joined as a facilitator in 2023, bringing fresh insights and further strengthening the focus on liberation-centered education.

These years have taught the TCC community how to show up for one another, practice radical care, and embrace the ongoing journey of deschooling and growth. Together, TCC is creating a future rooted in community and liberation.
